1. Psalm 22 and the death on the Cross

From the beginning of this July we are reading Psalm and today¡Çs lecturing passage is chapter 22. The poem must be very familiar to Christians because it contains the words which Jesus cried out on the brink of death. Mark reported them in Hebrew whereas Matthew¡Ç record is in Aramaic ; - At three o’clock Jesus cried in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani.” This means, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?¡É(Mark 15:24) And ; - About three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” This means, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?¡É(Matthew27:46) (³¤…)

1. Great God and meager man

We reflect on Psalm 8 which is given as today¡Çs lecturing part. The hymn was sung by the crowd in the forecourt of the Temple of Jerusalem. The choir took part first ; - O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8:1a) And a soloist followed ; - When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place. (Psalm 8:3) Then they sang the chant all together ; - O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!(Psalm 8:9) (³¤…)

1. David fled from his son out of Jerusalem

We continue the lecture on Psalm and today’s reading part is Psalm 3. The poem is preceded by the caption ‘A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.’ In general, captions of Psalm are added by the compiler and don’t summarize necessarily contents of poems or details about writers. However I think the caption of Psalm 3 gives useful informations for better understanding of the writer¡Çs feeling. And we will admit that today’s poem was written by the king David himself. The king revealed through lyrics the bottom of his mind during the time of escape from his son. (³¤…)

1. Psalm 1 as the preface

From today, we commence the series of reflection on Psalm as Sunday service and the Bible study classes lecture. The book consists of 150 poems of various themes. Some poems praise God and give thanks to. Some others are prayers written under difficulties in seeking God’s mercy. Today’s reading portion is the first poem. It is the introduction which states the standing point of the whole book. Contents of Psalm represent the full range of Israel’s faith: Those who love God will be blessed and those who do not will vanish. The writer of the first poem commences his lyrics ; - Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.(Psalm1:1) (³¤…)
