1. Offense at Jesus

We are now reflecting on ” Bread of life” by reading chapter 6 in which Jesus commenced the ministry in Galilee, his home land.

His healing acts and convincing teachings attracted numerous people and they gathered around him. Many of them also became his followers. Its culminating moment should be the scene where he fed more than 5000 men with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 little fish on the lakeside of the Sea of Galilee. The crowd were impressed by his miraculous power so strongly that they tried to make him their king, regardless of Jesus’ intention ;- Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.(John 6:15) (³¤…)

1. Jesus’ flesh and blood

During this August we are reading the episode about ” Bread of life” from the Gospel according to John. Jesus fed more around 5000 hungry men with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Impressed strongly by Jesus’ miraculous power, the crowd followed him to Capharnaum. Jesus taught there such people to seek “bread for eternal life”. That was the beginning of the story.

Today’s lecturing portion is the most important part of it, in which Jesus compels them to take his flesh and blood to get new and eternal life. “To eat flesh of Jesus ” is the theme of today’s lesson. (³¤…)

1. Bread from heaven

During this August we reflect on the story about “bread of life” by reading the Gospel according to John. Two weeks ago we learned about the feeding miracle in which Jesus satisfied about 5000 hungry persons with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Impressed strongly with Jesus’ power, the crowd followed him. But Jesus told to those people ;-” Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life” ( John 6:27)
” Food that endures to eternal life” indicates Jesus himself, the Son of God, who came from heaven. But those who heard Jesus’ words took offense at him and commenced grumbling. Today’s reading part begins here. (³¤…)

1. After the miracle

We are learning about the miracle of the loaves and fish. It is reported that Jesus fed 5000 men with 5 loaves and 2 fish. Last Sunday we reflected on the event by reading the concerning passage in the Gospel according to John, 6:1-15.

There Jesus satisfied the hungry crowd, who had followed him after hearing his teaching. He could feed the audience of about more than 5000 persons with that small quantity of food. Normally his disciple thought it was impossible but Jesus successfully done it by performing a miracle with faith in God. The belief that God always gives humans what they need made impossible possible. (³¤…)
