1. Unrecognized Jesus

We are reflecting during this month of Easter on significance of the Resurrection by reading Gospels. Today’s lecturing portion is Luke 24. Like other Gospel writers Luke noted the disciples couldn’t recognize resurrected Jesus. The concerning passage tells the episode which commenced on the road to Emmaus, a town located approximately 60 stadions (11 km) northwest of Jerusalem. Luke describes the scene this way ;-Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.(Luke 24:13-16¡Ë (³¤…)

1. The event of Easter

The last Sunday we celebrated Easter, the commemoration day of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Though it is very difficult to believe in the Resurrection because we can not prove it historically and objectively. But without that belief, there will be no vision beyond our death and our life should finish in void. Therefore whether we believe in it or not is a crucial question to our existence. Besides it determines our way of living. From the latest lecture we have learned that disciples, even tough they found the empty tomb, couldn’t understand that Jesus had been resurrected. To those disciples resurrected Jesus showed himself. Today we continue reflecting on the same theme by reading the second portion of John chapter 20. (³¤…)

1. The Empty Tomb

Today we will celebrate Easter, the Resurrection day of Jesus Christ. In fact it is difficult to understand and accept the event as it exactly happened. The four Gospels give different records concerning Jesus’ coming back to the life. In contrast to that the gospel writers describe the scene of the Passion in almost similar way. I think it is because the event of Passion consists of historically provable elements. But as for the Resurrection it seems the twelve disciples could hardly believed in it. Mark, Like and Matthew don’t conceal that ;- Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.(Mark 16:8)/ But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.(Luke 24:11)/ When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.( Matthew 28:17) (³¤…)

Today is the first Lord’s day of new church year and also the beginning of Lent. Jesus entered Jerusalem at the time of the Passover and many people there received him enthusiastically. We commemorate the day as the Palm Sunday*, today in this year. On that occasion we seek to earn the meaning of the event by reading Mark chapter 11. (³¤…)

1.A kernel of wheat

Today, the last sunday of the church year, we observe the 5th Lord’s day of Lent. The lecturing portion is John 12:20-33, in which we focus on 2 important verses. The first is 12:24;- I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (³¤…)
