1. The Calling of The First Disciples

We are continuing to read the Gospel according to John from the beginning of the new year. Again we look at that classic statement which summarizes the creation of the world and stresses the role of the eternal ‘word’ in creation. “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men” (John 1:3-4). Notice how the focus shifts from creation in general to human beings. Life and light symbolize ways in which God and the word are present to sustain creation. (³¤­…)

1. The Baptism of Jesus

Today, the first worship of the new year, we start reading the Gospel according to John. Last week we learned that the word was with God, and the word became flesh and lived among us. The story of Jesus is the story of the word becoming flesh. He was in the world but the world did not receive Him as the Messiah. Nevertheless some believed in Him and they were made God’s children. We learned also from Romans chapter 8 that to be be God’s children is to be free from a slavish life, expressing joy in preparation to receive the baptism. Now let’s contemplate further the profound meaning of baptism by reading the second part of chapter 1 of the Gospel according to John. (³¤­…)

1.The Word Became Flesh

The last week we had three days of Christmas celebrations: Eve worship, Sunday service, and a children’s party. Although it was a very busy period, it was filled with joy and satisfaction. We worshiped together, praising God for His grace and wisdom, through the birth of His son Jesus.
Now we are waiting for the new year. So it is this very time, just after Christmas, in which we pause to contemplate what we must do in the year ahead regarding, the ongoing progress and development of ourselves and the Church. We shall seek guidance by reading some verses from chapter 1 of the Gospel according to John. (³¤­…)
