18th November, 2007 [In trusting our lives to the Lord] Exodus 2:1-10

1. The birth of Moses

In recent times we have been reading from the Old Testament book of Genesis, taking in lessons about the Creation, the beginning of the world’s civilizations, and Israel’s place among them. We read about Abraham’s family, Sarah and Isaac, Hagar and Ishmael. Abraham received God’s call, a blessing which was passed on to Isaac and his son Jacob. A severe famine came upon the land and Jacob, with his twelve sons, moved to Egypt. From there, we now turn to the Book of Exodus. (³¤…)

November 11th, 2007 [The new departure ] Genesis 12:1-9

1. The Call of Abram and his departure

While awaiting Christmas, we have turned to the book of Genesis. This book teaches that humans, though created by God with every blessing, sinned, became unfaithful, and eventually slipped away from God. There were many troubles and conflicts within the church during those thirty eight years, some of which caused my three predecessors to leave, and the church members to disperse. But, despite all of this, we continue to preach the good news of the Gospel, with many new members, and a new vision for the future. For we know, even during bad times, there always remains the hope that God will help our work, and bless us abundantly (Gen. 1). (³¤…)

[ Creation of Life ] Genesis 1:26-31

1. The earth was formless and empty BUT the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

From today we are in the period of Advent*, which our denomination observes for 9 weeks until the Nativity. Advent, speaks of promise, preparation, hope, and anticipation. So let us briefly look back through human history, it’s beginning and development. Genesis chapter 1 describes the creation of the world:
- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. (Genesis 1:1-3) (³¤…)
